Have you caught yourself slouching more and more in your chair? Whether you’re at home, or at work, the temptation is always present.
For me, it’s something I don’t even realize that I’m doing until I suddenly.. realize it.
So, to counteract all the bad posture I’ve been unconsciously cultivating over the years, I decided to get a wobble cushion.
How does a wobble cushion work?
Well, you just get a half circle. It’s easier than sitting on a bouncy ball because you can put this on your chair and take it off whenever you want. You don’t have to fully commit!
A modular workout, so to speak. In most cases, they will be filled with air. That’s how the one I purchased works. It even has a little hole if I want it to be super pressurized(for me that doesn’t work).
A quick video plug of my review of the cushion is below, and to my youtube channel :p
Is it effective for posture?
I was definitely a little hesitant at first to believe in the hype, but I can say it has definitively helped my core. How this translates to posture overall I would imagine is beneficial since your core is pretty important to keeping you upright.
Depending on how much air you have filled in it and how stiff it is, you’ll be able to sit for longer or shorter periods of time. I can only do about 15 minutes before I start getting annoyed with it.
The thing is, you’ll have to constantly be making minor stabilization adjustments. Which is cool too, but sometimes I’m just trying to relax and watch Netflix. In that case, I’ve found it doesn’t work best for me as I’m in the “chill mode”.
Then What Time of Day is Best to Use your Disc Cushion?
When you’re focusing on a task that has been the best time for me in my experience to use my cushion. You’re honed in on something and the added game of keeping stable adds to the concentration.
Of course a wobble cushion isn’t going to replace the gym, but if you are able to find a routine for you to stay consistent with then you’ll feel an improvement over time.
Do you have a task that you have to complete every day at your computer? I use emails, when I sit down and check emails I throw the wobble cushion on my chair. In some sort of weird sciency experiment it has now saved me from aimlessly checking mail during the day.
I know that “okay during this timeframe I’m checking emails and using the wobble chair”, and it has helped cement that habit. A pretty cool unintentional bonus for me.
If you’re looking to correct your posture like I was, you know it’s going to take some time. But, there are plenty of tools available to aid you in helping your back get back in shape!
The wobble cushion is a tool on the list and I like it. Combined with stretching and being more mindful of my posture I think it has definitely helped me get into a decent routine.
If you end up purchasing one, let me know how it works out. And as always, thanks for reading 🙂
